The release of Alexa Chung‘s book, “It“, made me think about the role that It girls have in the modern society. The socialites, whether they come from a well-known family, or they have found their own way in the light of the photographers’ flashes, have a big influence on the fashion world.
Alexa Chung is the most influential, every single outfit she wears becomes a must have, her haircut is the most copied since the “Rachel” of Friends and the bag Mulberry dedicated her is one of the most coveted. These girls rarely fail, are always in the best dressed lists and in the place to be. But what have they done to achieve the status? Some of them are very beautiful (Poppy Delevigne), some are very wealthy, some belong to both the previous categories (Olivia Palermo), others have famous parents (the Geldof sisters), and they all share the same quality- they have the “It” factor.
What is It? How do you gain It? I think they are pretty young things, very skinny, rich, some have a good sense of style and a full wallet that, along with presents from their designer friends, allows them to pick the best clothing. Others are “It” because of the merits of their parents, just think about Zoe Kravitz, known for her dad and her relationship with Penn Badgley, (Gossip Girl’s Dan), rather then her striking fashion choices.
